So, I’m wondering where the best places to drink wine are?
Living in San Antonio, but not being a native San Antonian, I’m not sure I know all the best places to get or enjoy a glass of wine, but I am making it my mission to find out. I’d like to get a good list of the Top 10 Places in Your Town to drink wine so if you have a list of your favorite spots, please let us know. I’m going to submit an initial list here and will update as I discover more good spots. This list is not in the order of best to worst, just the order of what popped into my head first.
- My grandparents’ porch watching the sun set over the Guadalupe River valley
- The river deck at the Gristmill Restaurant (in Gruene, TX)
- Winestyles (check out their wine discovery nights every Tuesday $5 for public, $ .99 for members)
- Paesano’s (any one is good, but the 1604 location is my personal fav!)
- Guadalupe River State Park camping by the river (if you haven’t noticed I really like drinking wine by rivers)
- Scenic Loop Cafe (a decent list of wines, but the outside patio atmosphere is what makes it a really fun place to relax, listen to live music and enjoy your wine)
- The Vineyards at Garden Ridge
- Brackenridge Park
- Copa Wine Bar
- Zinc Champagne and Wine Bar
What are your best spots? Post them here! Even if you don’t have a whole list, I’d be interested in finding out where the hot spots are around the world!

Well, there are some amazing places to enjoy wine in Bucks County, PA. The best for me is my back porch overlooking the herb garden on a summer night with some friends but some that others can enjoy would be:
Crossing Vineyards in Washington Crossing, PA. They have an amazing collection of prize winning wines, a delightful staff, and a beautiful patio nestled next to the the stone farmhouse and the vineyard.
Jules Pizza in Doylestown is a bring your own establishment and while the atmosphere is nice but a pizza place – the pizza is extraordinary and goes well with a crisp white or a mellow red. Try the fig jam and prosciutto pizza with a Chardonnay! Heaven….
Jason,
I am envious of your time to enjoy wine in so many places. I enjoy my wine anywere I’m enjoying it(usually on the boat) and it’s always red and always dry(except for a nice Port). Robert Mondavi(not the woodbridge) and Fetzer Cabernet are my daily affordable wines.
Last weekend I went to a wine tasting at Crown Liqours in Juno, Florida. It was $15 and there was more than enough wine and food to taste. They are doing this more frequently lately and at other locations.
I would encourage people if they get the opportunity to go on the wine trails in New York(Finger Lakes and Catskill). You will have a ball and get to taste some great east coast wines.

One of my favorite places to drink wine in Austin is at Ruth’s Chris, because that means that I have decided to pay more than what I usually do since it happens only once a year.
Another favorite place I like to drink wine is at the Clay Pit. Something about a rich cab, with a spicy as hell Indian dish, just makes the room all warm and fuzzy.
Last place, and best place, on the couch with Mike watching the Sopranos and Rome.
You know if you go to the finger lakes check out Lake Keuka. It’s one of the smaller lakes, but you can drive around it in an afternoon and there are a bunch of good wineries along it’s shores.
Also, if you want to stay at a really nice place, check out Tudor Hall B&B: http://p-port.com/tudorhallbb/
I stayed there once and it was great. The food was awesome and drinking out in the lawn chairs, watching the sun go down over the lake is pretty amazing.
Wine by a river, ah yes. What could be better than that? The river flowing by while sipping on a Pinot Grigio while chatting to a good friend is one of my favorites. I also like wine after a long day of skiing. Just someting about snow and wine that goes together.
Great site! I’m glad you took to wordpress so quickly.
“The wines were too various….It was neither the quality nor the quantity that was at fault. It was mixture.” While it’s fairly obvious that Waugh is referring directly to adolescent mischief, I feel an underlying meaning is the assessment of the total environment in which one enjoys. Thus the landscape is but part of the whole; I far more enjoyed “Blue Crab” from a Virginia vineyard (near the banks of the James) than I did a French table red while picnicking in Bayeux. For it is whom one is with that is key… that being said … in front of a fire on the banks of Blackhawk Lake or on my sister’s patio are favorite locals … obviously selected for the people who are present.
